KARACHI – Hussain Nawaz, the son of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, has denied claims surfaced in Panama papers about his father having assets offshore.
While giving an interview to a private TV channel on Monday he said, “We simply purchased a property, what it has to do with money laundering? The company which holds this (property) is owned by us, it has no connection with money laundering.”
“Whatever the report says I have nothing to do with it, and I categorically say both Mian Nawaz Sharif and Mian Shahbaz Sharif own neither any asset abroad nor any offshore or onshore company is registered against their names,” Hussain said.
Earlier, confidential papers in Panama leaks revealed that Hussain, Hasan, and Mariam, the sons and daughter of PM Nawaz, owned at least six upmarket properties overlooking London’s Hyde Park.
Sharif family mortgaged four of these properties to the Deutsche Bank (Suisse) SA for a loan of GBP 7 million and the Bank of Scotland part financed the purchase of two other apartments, revealed the document.
The documents further unfolded that former Pakistan prime minister late Benazir Bhutto, former interior minister Abdul Rehman Malik and nephew Hassan Ali Jaffery Bhutto set up a company, Petroline International Inc, in the British Virgin Islands in 2001.
