ISLAMABAD: Nominated chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Thursday observed that the judiciary was an independent institution that worked without pressure.
“We are independent and we decide the cases with our conscience,” he said while hearing an appeal filed by supermodel Ayyan Ali against the Interior Ministry.
The judge remarked that the judiciary decided cases without being pressurised by other institutions. He further said that the judiciary had nothing to do with anyone’s statement.
In an interview, the former military ruler said that the judiciary should work for
the admin
istration of justice, but courts worked under pressure behind the scene and then gave decisions. The significant remarks of the upcoming CJP came after former milit
ary dictator General (r) Pervez Musharraf claimed that
the recently retired chief of army staff (COAS) General (r) Raheel Sharif helped him leave
the country by pressurising
the court, which was hearing a high-treason case filed by the federal government. However, ruling out that
the courts worked under pressure, the upcoming CJP said, “Whatever decision was made, it was without any iota of pressure, and we should not make an opinion on such statements.”
